Area Four takes its name from its neighborhood: Area Four, a section of Cambridge located between Kendall and Central Squares. With a rich history as an important transportation hub connecting Boston and Cambridge, the neighborhood became a major industrial center in the 19th and 20th centuries with the construction of distilleries, electric power plants and soap and hosiery factories.
Today, Area Four is the global epicenter of learning and innovation, thanks to the number of biotechnology and information technology firms lured to the area by the proximity to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus.
